  • Student Council

  • Sponsor - Ms. Moran
    • Meeting Time - 8:30am, 1st Friday of each month

  • Description - A student council is an elected group of students that represent the student body, acting as a liaison with administration to improve school culture, organize events, and develop leadership skills. Operating through democratic processes and guided by advisors, they manage initiatives like fundraisers and school improvements. 

  • FCDI Speech and Debate

    • Advisor - Ms. Steele
    • Meeting Time - twice per week, varies
    • Meeting Location - Media Center
    • Description - 
      • Debate (Public Forum) students work on researching and finding valid sources, writing an original 4-minute debate, and editing and revising their debate essays. These essays are similar to argumentative essays and use some of the same strategies when writing the debates.
      • Students must write a debate and prep for both the pro and the con side. They practice this debate process and work together with their debate partner in preparation for debate tournaments where they will have to argue both sides of a civics-based case.
      • Students also work on impromptu speech skills. They are taught how to think quickly on their feet, organize a quick speech, and present themselves to an audience.
      • Students are expected to participate in at least FOUR debates/ speeches within the school year, and the program is year-round program (CCPS ends the season in the middle of April). These tournaments will qualify students for the State Championships (in April) if they place in the top tier.
    • GGMS students have been participating in debate for years and are often top contenders when competing in Public Forum Debate.

  • Scholar Bowl 

    • Advisor - Ms. Crouse
    • Concluded for 2026
    • Description - An Academic competition that helps students expand their creative and critical thinking skills in a competitive atmosphere with other middle schools in the district. They work as a team to achieve right answers during a quiz bowl win the competition.  Students develop lifelong skills such as leadership, teamwork, problem-solving, and public speaking.

  • National Junior Honor Society

    • Advisor - Ms. Prevost
    • Meeting Time - First Wednesday of the month 4-4:30pm
    • Meeting Location - 2-203

    • Description - The National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) focuses on developing students in the five core areas: Scholarship, Service, Leadership, Character and Citizenship. The organization is aimed at fostering balance growth beyond just academics. Students must earn and maintain a 3.0 GPA in middle school and earn 10 or more service hours in the school year.

  • Math Counts

    • Advisor - Ms. Gonnelly
    • Concluded for 2026
    • Description - A national program that provides students in grade 6-8 the opportunity to compete in live contests against and alongside their peers.
